The U.S. Army Recruiting Command and its Soldiers, Families, Civilians and Contractors are the Army’s trusted ambassadors to the American people. We “Provide the Strength” from the 1,400-plus recruiting stations nationwide and overseas.
Recruiting is one of the most critical jobs in the Army and it’s an extremely important mission. USAREC is a geographically dispersed unit, located throughout the 48 continental states, Hawaii, Alaska, U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Europe, Guam, Saipan, Japan and Korea.
Due to the geographical dispersal of the units within USAREC, Soldiers and Families may find themselves living many miles from a military installation. For some, transitioning into a civilian community can be difficult.

Recruiting - Making Mission: While you are assigned to the Houston Recruiting Battalion, a question that you will probably hear often is "is your station making mission?" This is a question that, in one form or another, is asked at every level from HQ USAREC down to the individual recruiting center. Since success in USAREC is measured by how well we "make mission," it is important that you have an understanding of what's involved in the process of "making mission."
How the Mission is Established: The process starts with Congress which dictates how large the Army can be. The Department of the Army (DA) then determines how many enlistments (by category) are needed to keep the Army at the strength prescribed by Congress (based upon the projected strength of the Army, taking into account projected losses). This mission is then given to USAREC where it is broken down among each recruiting brigade, each recruiting battalion, and then each recruiting company.
Where the Market is: An important aspect of the "making mission" process is determining where the market is. As used here, "market" refers to the availability of the young men and women needed in the Army. Obviously, if the market isn't there, it will be difficult to make mission. As a result, the market throughout the United States is constantly monitored to ensure that the location of each recruiting center allows for maximum effectiveness of the recruiting effort.
