Mission

Our mission is to execute high-fidelity shipboard representative integrated warfare capabilities in a maritime environment to strengthen the fleet. SCSC is an Echelon III Navy command under the Program Executive Officer, Integrated Warfare Systems. Surface Combat Systems Training Center Detachment Wallops Island, a detachment of Center for Surface Combat Systems, Dahlgren, Virginia, is a tenant Command at Wallops Island. Surface Combat Systems Center was previously AEGIS Combat Systems Center.

Special and Critical Installation Information

SCSC Wallops Island is a rural area with little to no public transportation. A car and a valid driver’s license are a virtual necessity. Also, if you are arriving during mid-summer and need temporary quarters, first contact the Navy Gateway Inn and Suites for reservations. If there are no rooms available, you will need to make reservations at a local hotel on Chincoteague Island. Reservations should be made well in advance since summer is a high tourist season in this resort area.

Defense Service Network (DSN) Dialing Instructions

The DSN is the provider of long-distance communications service for the Department of Defense (DoD). Every installation has a special DSN number and the numbers vary by world-wide location. In order to place a call using DSN, the caller must be using a military phone on an installation. Cell phones cannot dial DSN numbers. When dialing a DSN number from a United States installation to another United States installation, it is unnecessary to dial the DSN 312 area code. When dialing a DSN number to/from overseas locations, the DSN area code must be included. The operator can be reached at commercial (719) 567-1110. Please note that long distance charges may be incurred.

Wallops Island does not have DSN.
