No Drone Zone
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has prohibited flying Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS or "drones") over U.S. Department of Defense installations, including Naval Air Station Oceana and NAS Oceana Dam Neck Annex in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Naval Auxiliary Landing Field (NALF) Fentress in Chesapeake, Virginia. These naval installations, and others in Hampton Roads, are designated "National Defense Airspace" in Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) 7/7282 issued on April 7, 2017. UAS operators who violate this NOTAM may be criminally charged in U.S. District Court under 49 U.S. Code 46307 and punished by fine and/or imprisonment. Unauthorized drone operations prohibited within 5 miles of airports.

Mass Warning and Notification System Bottom Line Up Front (BLUF) — IT’S A REQUIREMENT. ALL military (active duty and Reserve), civil service and contractor personnel with an NMCI user account are required to register their office email address and phone number, at minimum, in the WAAN. Registering personal emergency contact information also is strongly encouraged. Personnel are not automatically registered in the WAAN. The Navy can’t alert you if it can’t contact you! This emergency mass notification system provides NAS Oceana, Dam Neck Annex and NALF Fentress with an effective and reliable Mass Warning and Notification System that can be used during a crisis to warn affected personnel. During emergencies, it is critical to be able to quickly and accurately inform personnel in real-time, notify them of threats and provide them with instructions. To effectively and quickly reach a mass audience and targeted individuals/groups, the notification system relies on the contact information you provide when registering with CDNS/AtHoc.
