MCCS Hampton Roads

Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) is a comprehensive set of programs that support and enhance the operational readiness, warfighting capabilities, and life quality of Marines, their families, retirees, and civilians across the Marine Corps. MCCS is valued by leadership as being a user-friendly and a responsive single portal providing constant and unwavering support to Marines and their families throughout their entire service or affiliation with the United States Marine Corps.

MCCS Hampton Roads (MCCSHR) delivers goods and provides support services to about 3,000 Marines stationed in the Hampton Roads region ~ to include supporting those enrolled in the EFMP and stationed in Fort Lee VA. Specifically MCCSHR programs include: Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP), Marine Corps Family Team Building (MCFTB), Semper Fit, Single Marine Program (SMP) and a *new robust Outdoor Recreational Equipment Rental offering with 21ft campers, camping equipment, coolers, canopies, mountain bikes, bounce houses and even lawn equipment. Retail services include a Marine Corps Exchange Gun Counter, barber shop, Firestone Automotive provider and new food establishment, Kitchenfinity was added! Outdoor Recreation, located inside the MCX, has plenty of rental options of brand new equipment.

The Hampton Roads area of Virginia encompasses seven cities and includes a broad geographic area. When moving to the area, in addition to personal preferences, consider where you choose to reside as it relates to the location of your command. Hampton Roads is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, the Chesapeake Bay, as well as other major rivers and waterways. It is virtually impossible to get from city to city without passing over/through bridges and tunnels. The tunnels, especially, can be onerous to navigate. High volume can result in miles of traffic back ups adding significant time to your commute. Some tunnels have tolls attached, which can significantly add to your commuting costs.

Childcare

There are significant wait lists for the "on base" Child Development Centers. There are 9 CDCs in the area, located near or near each base. Most are Navy, and there centers on Fort Eustis and Langley. Visit https://www.childcareaware.org/ for resources, eligible programs and assistance.

DSN Dialing Instructions

DSN is the Defense Switched Network, which is, among other things, the DOD worldwide telephone system. DSN telephone numbers can only be dialed from one DSN telephone number to another telephone on the Defense Switched Network. Civilian phone systems can not send or receive calls to or from a DSN phone. Every installation has a special DSN number and the numbers vary by world-wide location. When dialing a DSN number from a United States installation to another United States installation, it is unnecessary to dial the DSN 312 area code. When dialing a DSN number to/from overseas locations, the DSN area code must be included.
